The Perfect At-Home Pecan Crunch Latte
Updated: Jan 21

When Starbucks introduced their newest fall flavor in 2024, I was instantly obsessed. The pecan crunch latte was perfect for me in every way -- nutty, sweet and lactose-free by default.
But, between inflation, life events and wanting to restructure my budget, I decided to try my hand at recreating my favorite fancy forms of caffeine at home. After a quick Google search of how to make a typical latte, I was starting to feel a little apprehensive that I'd be able to achieve anything close to what I enjoyed. I just have my trusty Keurig Elite, an old moka pot and a reusable coffee pod.
I started with the moka pot and regular espresso, but truthfully I am terrible at using them. I can never get a smooth, steady flow of rich liquid to come up through the spout. I didn't want to get an espresso maker so I had to consider my options. I decided to pick up an inexpensive [rechargeable hand frother], a small frothing pitcher and started experimenting.
The next hurdle was the fact that the pecan crunch latte uses blonde espresso. The Starbucks variety is surprisingly hard to find, and also outside of my intended budget. That's when I found an [instant blonde espresso] from Nescafe. I know, instant coffee? Many might scoff at the idea, but it had solid reviews and it kept my budget happy. It actually has a surprisingly smooth taste and rich flavor compared to other instant varieties I've tried.
Two months later and after much frustration, I can honestly say I think I've nailed the drink. The best part? It's also possible to make it sugar-free for all the pleasure and none of the guilt.
But enough exposition, here's the magical formula I've landed on (for now):
Starbucks-Style Pecan Crunch Latte
Tools:
Hand frother
Frothing pitcher (or just a tall microwaveable glass)
Kettle or any item capable of making at least 2-4 oz. of boiling water
Ingredients:
Nescafe Gold Blonde Instant Espresso
Oatmilk (I use Oatly's Barista-Style Oatmilk for better frothing results)
Syruvia's Sugar-Free Butter Pecan syrup
Optional Ingredients:
Pecan/nut topping (I found Pecan Brittle sprinkles sold through a small business called Psalms' Gourmet Brittle)
Vanilla/sweet cream cold foam (I use International Delight's French Vanilla cold foam since it's non-dairy)
Step-by-Step Guide:
Add 1.5 teaspoons of the instant espresso and 2 pumps of the butter pecan syrup to 2 ounces of boiling water in your mug of choice (keep in mind this latte will be roughly 10 ounces total). Mix well and set aside.
Microwave (or gently heat) roughly 8 ounces of your dairy of choice, being careful to reach your desired temperature without burning or overheating. Do NOT bring to a boil.
Carefully froth the milk for roughly 30 seconds, moving the frothing tip up and down the center gradually. Make sure you're using a pitcher or glass that's tall enough, as frothing motion has a tendency to force liquids to rise quite high on the sides.
Gently pour the milk into your espresso mug and stir. Top with cold foam or sprinkles if desired.
Enjoy!
